~~Tumblr is about the only place I haven’t shamelessly promoted this short film.~~
Well that didn’t last long.

So this is ‘True Repose’, a short experimental film a small group of us made for our last Film School assignment: To Experiment with Sound and Image… vague, right?
From Pre to Post production the project totalled just under 3 months of solid work and, although we’re far from finished, as it stands we’re all very proud of the film we handed in.

Being the Cinematographer for such an ‘open’ project was an amazing, yet challenging experience. Choosing both 16mm and DSLR as the film’s two formats opened up some really interesting doors in terms of separating the different time periods. Trying to visually distinguish the two distinct ‘atmospheres’ of the story was also interesting (the blatant use of Black and White helped!), opting to use very static ‘lifeless’ shots for the present. Compare these to the fast, fluid movements of the past and you can clearly see the energy he had as a child.
There’s a few other massively pretentious bits and bobs in there but I’m going to stop being ostentatious now… If you do watch it - Enjoy!
